SUMMARY:Town of Cary: Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Council Chambers\, 316 N. Academy Street\, Cary Town Hall\, Cary\, NC 27513
DESCRIPTION:Town Council\n\nCary's Town Council held a regular meeting covering four proclamations\, a four-item consent agenda\, and three public hearings: the 2026-2027 CDBG annual action plan\, a 175-unit rezoning proposal on Trenton Road\, and bike-plan-related amendments to the town's comprehensive plan. Public comment ran long\, with more than twenty residents\, faith leaders and advocates speaking on affordable housing funding and on the Trenton Road rezoning.\n\nCouncil approved a larger\, $5.3 million CDBG funding package on a 5-1 vote\, took no action on the Trenton Road rezoning or the bike-plan amendments (both referred to the planning and zoning board)\, and approved routine consent\, annexation and right-of-way items unanimously.\n\nAgenda: https://carync.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=14&ID=2797&Inline=True\nWatch: https://www.youtube.com/@caryncgovchannel/streams\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/395

SUMMARY:Town of Cary: Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Council Chambers\, 316 N. Academy Street\, Cary Town Hall\, Cary\, NC 27513
DESCRIPTION:Town Council\n\nCary's council considers an 18-month moratorium on accepting or processing data center and cryptocurrency-mining development applications\, exempting on-site equipment that draws under a megawatt\, while staff study power demand\, water use\, noise and site design and draft permanent rules. It also holds a hearing on annexing 8.99 acres at 4312 Jacobs Creek Lane\, tied to a rezoning for up to 16 detached houses\, with a vote deferred to a later meeting so the two can be decided together.\n\nA twelve-item consent agenda would authorize contracts including $905\,200 for engineering on the Western Wake Regional Water Reclamation Facility expansion\, a $4.14 million bid to rebuild the Cary Tennis Park courts\, and adoption of the ENGAGE and MOVE chapter updates to the Imagine Cary plan. Council also considers making permanent a parking ban on East Cedar Street.\n\nAgenda: https://carync.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=14&ID=2843&Inline=True\nWatch: https://www.youtube.com/@caryncgovchannel/streams\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/458

SUMMARY:Town of Cary: Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Council Chambers\, 316 N. Academy Street\, Cary Town Hall\, Cary\, NC 27513
DESCRIPTION:Town Council\n\nCary's council takes up the Alston Commons rezoning on Thursday\, 22.74 acres at NC 55 and Petty Farm Road moving from office and research zoning to mixed use. The plan allows 500 to 625 apartments\, 200\,000 square feet of office and 55\,000 of commercial\, including a car wash of up to 30\,000 square feet. The applicant has committed to structured parking\, 48 electric vehicle charging spaces\, and renting at least 5 percent of the units to households at or below 80 percent of area median income for thirty years. The Planning and Zoning Board found the request consistent with the Imagine Cary plan 8-1\, in July 2025.\n\nThe council also votes on extending its smoking ban. The 2007 ordinance covers town buildings and vehicles\; the amendment would reach all town grounds\, the whole parks system including greenways and trails\, and private enclosed places open to the public across the town\, with a narrow allowance for designated outdoor smoking areas. E-cigarettes are covered throughout\, and the effective date is 1 July 2027.\n\nTwo more items and a long consent agenda. The Flat Iron development downtown asks to raise its permitted apartments from 200 to 250 and to cut the town's funding commitment\, in an amendment to the 2022 development agreement for what was the Number 5 Mixed Use project. A council member asks to make the Transportation and Mobility Committee a formal board. On consent are a five-year fuel management contract worth up to $14.81 million\, a $13.7 million amendment to the GoCary transit operations contract\, a $1.62 million water main on Optimist Farm Road that interconnects with Holly Springs for emergency backfeed\, and a $2\,367\,765 appropriation to cover an arbitrage rebate the town owed the federal government after unspent 2021 bond proceeds earned more interest than federal limits allow.\n\nAgenda: https://carync.iqm2.com/Citizens/FileOpen.aspx?Type=14&ID=2861&Inline=True\nWatch: https://www.youtube.com/@caryncgovchannel/streams\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/473
