SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Work Session
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nThis is a briefing session with no votes on the agenda: commissioners hear four staff updates. The largest is a schematic design presentation for Phase 3 of the county detention center\, a three-story\, 220\,000-square-foot addition adding about 600 beds and staff support space\, currently estimated at $175-210 million with a projected opening in early 2030. Staff also present an update on the countywide Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan\, organized around three core service areas (open space\, recreation and leisure\, and education)\, and noting the county has lost about 3.6% of its tree canopy since 2010.\n\nTwo shorter items round out the session: an update on the 2026 employee benefits RFP process\, covering medical\, dental\, vision\, and Medicare Advantage plans\, with finalist interviews running into May and board recommendations expected in June and July\; and a strategic initiative on homelessness built around a 2026-2027 'direct to housing' surge\, informed by new federal Continuum of Care renewal funding of roughly $3.3-6.1 million for Wake-area projects.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/4/6214_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-04-13_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/50

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County's board is taking up a fairly routine April agenda\, with most business bundled into the consent agenda: a multi-year library software contract\, an agreement with the state on sediment control\, an opioid-settlement participation resolution\, $31.7 million in library bond proceeds from the 2024 referendum\, easements for two Crabtree Creek flood-control structures\, and schematic design approval for a phase 3 expansion of the county detention center.\n\nOn the regular agenda\, commissioners will approve 2026 loan recommendations steering federal and county housing funds toward several low-income tax-credit apartment developments in Raleigh\, sign off on schematic designs for a new Wendell public safety station and the West Wake Solid Waste Facility in Morrisville\, and vote on a resolution opposing any state move to cap or restrict county property tax authority.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/4/6215_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-04-20_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/51

LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County commissioners hear the county manager's recommended budget for the fiscal year that starts in July\, which sets up public hearings later in May. The rest of the meeting is routine: consent-agenda items add funding for the GoWake Access paratransit service and county crime-prevention grants\, and update the required income mix at the Tryon Station apartment project.\n\nThe board also proclaims National Police Week and Military Appreciation Month\, and works through a batch of advisory-board appointments covering everything from the Energy Advisory Commission to the Apex Planning Board.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/5/6219_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-05-04_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/53

Adopting the orders on second reading would put both measures on the fall ballot.\n\nThe board also plans to add a floor resolution honoring Dr. Prezell R. Robinson\, the late eighth president of St. Augustine's University\; act on three anniversary proclamations\, for Wake County EMS\, Wake County Parks\, Recreation and Open Space\, and the Americans with Disabilities Act\; take up a 13-item consent agenda covering a Microsoft licensing agreement\, a Public Safety Center sprinkler-replacement contract\, a Dillard Drive lease assumption and other routine business\; and vote on July appointments to nine citizen advisory boards.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/7/6235_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-07-06_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/64

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County commissioners passed a 24-item consent agenda August 17 covering an opioid-settlement spending resolution\, a $1\,548\,850 construction contract to rebuild the North Wake Household Hazardous Waste Facility\, a forest-land protection agreement with the state\, a Sheriff's Office off-duty scheduling contract\, easements conveyed to the City of Raleigh\, and capital-improvement appropriations for Wake County Public School System and Wake Tech. On the regular agenda\, the board held a public hearing confirming a special assessment roll for road improvements at the Preserve at Long Branch Farms subdivision\, approved an amendment to its Affordable Housing HOME-ARP allocation plan reprogramming money toward permanent housing\, updated its Business Development Grant Policy to add a new incentive tier for large ('transformational') projects\, and held a second public hearing on proposed amendments to WakeMed's Articles of Incorporation and transfer agreement -- a governance matter for the public hospital authority.\n\nEvery recorded item passed. The record available for this meeting reports each motion as carried but does not include the individual roll-call tally\, so whether any of these votes were split is not captured here. The board also worked through a slate of appointments to boards including the Fire Commission\, Historic Preservation Commission\, and Library Commission\, then closed session.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/8/6242_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-08-17_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/68

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Affordable Housing Committee
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County's Affordable Housing Committee meets Monday afternoon at the Justice Center for four homelessness and housing reports. Homeless and Prevention Services presents an impact report on Bridge to Home\, the county's program for people in shelter\, measured against the years before it began and with interviews by a Duke occupational therapy program. The Continuum of Care reports on Wake at Home\, its encampment effort\, which has rehoused more than 30 people from its first site. The Continuum also covers about $14.8 million in pending federal and state homelessness grants and plans for about 280 cold-weather shelter beds this winter.\n\nThe fourth report is on manufactured housing\, which makes up 2.7% of the county's homes. Staff cover how the 12 municipalities zone it and what July's federal ROAD to Housing Act\, which drops the permanent-chassis requirement\, may change. No votes are scheduled beyond the June minutes.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/10/6257_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-10-05_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/4718

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County commissioners hold three public hearings Monday evening. Two of them take the Town of Wendell out of the county fire tax district at Wendell's request\, because the town plans to fund and run its own fire department. The county would abolish the 1999 district on 30 June 2027 and recreate it without Wendell the next day. Staff expect the district to lose about $800\,000 a year and do not expect the fire tax rate to rise. The third hearing is on the schedule of values for the 2027 revaluation\, which will reset more than 88% of a $316.2 billion tax base. The board is due to adopt the schedule on 19 October.\n\nThe board also votes on buying 3211 Bramer Drive in Raleigh for $4.15 million and giving it to the Women's Center of Wake County. The Women's Center runs the county's drop-in shelter there now and would convert the former charter school into up to 20 shelter units for women. The purchase depends on Raleigh granting a special use permit. Money comes from $5 million budgeted in 2024. The consent agenda adds $278\,777 for emergency road repairs at the closed North Wake Landfill\, bringing that job to $1.03 million\, and accepts $375\,673 in Sheriff's Office grants.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/10/6253_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-10-05_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/4680
