SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Work Session
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nCommissioners open the work session with the schematic design for a new $214 million campus at the Wake County Office Park\, combining General Services\, Library Administration and Corporate Training space with a three-tier parking deck. The board is set to vote on the design at its September 21 meeting.\n\nThe board also revisits its priorities for the 2027-2028 legislative session\, weighing pending state bills that would cap property tax increases and shift SNAP administrative costs onto the county\, and returns to retreat discussions on a possible new strategic-plan goal for aging services.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/9/6255_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-09-14_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/3809

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County's commissioners take up the county's part in the proposed combination of WakeMed and Atrium Health on Monday afternoon. WakeMed is asking the board to approve amended and restated articles of incorporation and a second amendment to the transfer agreement\, both required before the two systems can join. If the board agrees\, the chair would be authorized to sign\, subject to federal regulatory approval and whatever terms the county attorney requires.\n\nThe board also opens the 2027 revaluation. Staff submit the proposed schedule of values\, standards and rules\, and ask the board to publish notice that both the market value and present-use value schedules are available for inspection\, with a public hearing set for October 5. Two public hearings are on this agenda: a business development grant for Novartis Innovative Technologies\, under the incentive policy the board adopted on August 17\, and the 2025 consolidated annual performance and evaluation report on the county's affordable housing spending. On consent are a five-year VMware licensing agreement through Presidio Networked Solutions\, the schematic design for new General Services and Library Administration buildings at the Wake County Office Park\, and a sublease of part of the Falls Lake project so Blue Jay Point County Park can keep operating.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/9/6244_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-09-21_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/3124

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Health and Human Services Committee
LOCATION:Remote
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County's Health and Human Services Committee meets remotely Monday to hear what the federal budget law known as HR1 will cost the county in food assistance. Staff put the cost at $2.5 million to $4 million in lost revenue this fiscal year\, as the federal share of SNAP administration falls from 50% to 25% on 1 October. Twice-yearly Medicaid rechecks are estimated to add $2.3 million to $3.3 million from December. From October 2027 the state plans to pass a benefit-cost penalty down to counties. Staff estimate the county's share at $12 million a year\, unless North Carolina keeps its SNAP payment error rate below 6%. Wake's rate was 10.43% in state fiscal 2025 and 7.2% as of May.\n\nStaff also say they plan to move some of the 25 Medicaid positions the board approved this spring over to SNAP to work on that error rate. Cooperative Extension then reports on the 2023 food security plan's ARPA programs\, which close in December\, and Social Services gives an overview of child support\, which collected $44.5 million in fiscal 2026.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/10/6256_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-10-05_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/4717

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Affordable Housing Committee
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County's Affordable Housing Committee meets Monday afternoon at the Justice Center for four homelessness and housing reports. Homeless and Prevention Services presents an impact report on Bridge to Home\, the county's program for people in shelter\, measured against the years before it began and with interviews by a Duke occupational therapy program. The Continuum of Care reports on Wake at Home\, its encampment effort\, which has rehoused more than 30 people from its first site. The Continuum also covers about $14.8 million in pending federal and state homelessness grants and plans for about 280 cold-weather shelter beds this winter.\n\nThe fourth report is on manufactured housing\, which makes up 2.7% of the county's homes. Staff cover how the 12 municipalities zone it and what July's federal ROAD to Housing Act\, which drops the permanent-chassis requirement\, may change. No votes are scheduled beyond the June minutes.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/10/6257_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-10-05_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/4718

SUMMARY:Wake County: Board of Commissioners — Regular Meeting
LOCATION:Wake County Justice Center
DESCRIPTION:Board of Commissioners\n\nWake County commissioners hold three public hearings Monday evening. Two of them take the Town of Wendell out of the county fire tax district at Wendell's request\, because the town plans to fund and run its own fire department. The county would abolish the 1999 district on 30 June 2027 and recreate it without Wendell the next day. Staff expect the district to lose about $800\,000 a year and do not expect the fire tax rate to rise. The third hearing is on the schedule of values for the 2027 revaluation\, which will reset more than 88% of a $316.2 billion tax base. The board is due to adopt the schedule on 19 October.\n\nThe board also votes on buying 3211 Bramer Drive in Raleigh for $4.15 million and giving it to the Women's Center of Wake County. The Women's Center runs the county's drop-in shelter there now and would convert the former charter school into up to 20 shelter units for women. The purchase depends on Raleigh granting a special use permit. Money comes from $5 million budgeted in 2024. The consent agenda adds $278\,777 for emergency road repairs at the closed North Wake Landfill\, bringing that job to $1.03 million\, and accepts $375\,673 in Sheriff's Office grants.\n\nAgenda: https://wake.legistar1.com/wake/meetings/2026/10/6253_A_Board_of_Commissioners_26-10-05_Meeting_Agenda.pdf\nWatch: https://wake.granicus.com/ViewPublisher.php?view_id=18\nDetails: https://ncgovwatch.com/meetings/4680
