What's on this agenda

Holly Springs' parks advisory committee elected a chair and vice chair on Thursday, effective immediately, and picked its representatives to the Transportation Advisory Committee and the Police Citizens Advisory Group. It also decided whether to take part in WinterFest and the Tree Trail at the North Main Athletic Complex on December 4 and 5.

Staff gave a design update on the town's festival street, and the committee reviewed where it stands on the action items under the Mayors' Monarch Pledge. This was the committee's first meeting since June.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Holly Springs' parks advisory committee elected Melinda Walker chair without opposition on 10 September. Eric Dean won vice chair over Daniel Fenton, 4-2. Members also voted to leave the secretary post empty and have staff keep the record. They split the liaison roles: Fenton and Dean to the Tree Advisory Committee, and Jodi Carey and Karen McGowan together to the Police-Community Advisory Group. The committee agreed unanimously to take part again in WinterFest and the Tree Trail at the North Main Athletic Complex on 4 and 5 December.

Staff said public input on the downtown Festival Street ranked shade, decorative lighting, public art and seating highest, with parking and traffic the main concerns, and set an open house for 14 October. The project list put the Oak Hall to North Main greenway out to rebid this fall at about $1.5 million, the athletic complex parking lot at $1.1 million to $1.5 million, and the Womble dugouts and basketball courts at $1.1 million. Members raised e-bikes and scooters on greenways and an unsafe crossing at Sunset Fairways. No one spoke at public comment.
