An architect from ThoughtCraft Architects told the commission that recent stabilization work on the Nancy Jones House addressed water intrusion and insect damage, and that the roof, though past its expected lifespan, remains functional after repairs; the asbestos siding is being left in place to protect the historic wood underneath until restoration funding allows its removal. He said the second floor does not meet modern load standards and should not be used for gatherings, while the first floor is safe. Commissioners asked about a dedicated maintenance budget and agreed small visible improvements, cleaning the facade, repainting the porch, adding signage, could signal the house's importance; they will revisit the topic in future meetings.

Staff reported the town council will hold a public hearing July 24 on designating the Levie and Clarence Braswell House at 309 N. West St. a Local Historic Landmark, following the commission's own recommendation in June. The council liaison said the application period for boards and commissions closed June 30 and reviews are underway.
