Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
The committee adopted its August agenda and June 16 minutes unanimously. Staff asked members for feedback on factors to weigh in cases involving gender-identity and transgender participation in youth leagues; members raised safety and competitive-balance concerns, the need to respect participants' identity without singling them out, and the recreational, inclusive nature of the programs, while staff noted an existing play-up or play-down process could handle some requests case by case. On weather policy, staff said unstaffed facilities remain a gap because no notification system can currently alert only the coach scheduled at a given site, and staff will develop new guidelines for extreme heat. The committee continued discussing what sports Cary should add, favoring more options for female participants and questioning whether drop-in or more socially focused adult leagues could fill demand without straining staff capacity. Staff also reported registration and participation numbers for fall youth and adult leagues, including 38 teams in Men's Open Basketball and 23 co-ed teams in Adult Volleyball.
How the votes went
The committee approved the August agenda and the June 16 minutes, both unanimously; no other votes were recorded.
