Committee meeting Historic preservation

What's on this agenda

Cary's Historic Preservation Month committee met for the first time this cycle on February 9, and spent 35 minutes on orientation. Staff explained what the committee is for, that its meetings are public and must be posted 48 hours ahead, that members and approved minutes are public record, and that staff are not required to attend.

Choosing a chair was postponed until all members could be present.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The committee decided to work from what already exists rather than start fresh: the 2025 Historic Preservation Month report for past recommendations, and the commission's January minutes for the ideas raised there.

Most of the discussion was about supporting the Friends group's May activities rather than mounting its own. Members backed attending The Changing Faces of Cary on May 21, possibly providing a speaker, and volunteering as costumed guides for walking tours on May 23 and 24. One member followed up by email the same day with the rest of the Friends' May programme, including a tea at Page-Walker on May 2 and Herb Fest on May 3. Staff noted that promoting any of it through town social media takes significant preparation, and the month's website would be updated once activities were confirmed.
