Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Staff raised a growing safety concern at the Seymour Center: more unsheltered people under 55 are spending time in the building. Street outreach staff will walk through at night and on Saturdays, and the department is hiring an evening desk assistant, preferring someone with security experience. Forty applications were in review.

The board's discussion of the revaluation covered whether counties can cap or relieve property tax for older owners. Both senior centres will host presentations from the tax office, and the board asked for the same at its next meeting. Members then discussed housing, cost of living and ageing in the county more broadly. They also noted the Fiddlehead Corner rezoning was denied 6-0.

On the Master Aging Plan, the department has hired a bilingual Mandarin programme coordinator and a Chinese community liaison, presented to the Refugee Community Partnership with translation into Burmese, Karen and Arabic, and updated the 2025 transportation guide. The county's equity office has compiled a list of interpreters, particularly for American Sign Language. The volunteer driver programme has two drivers with more coming on. Construction has begun on the Fit Lot, which staff hope to open for the 1 May health and wellness fair.
