What's on this agenda

Cary's Historic Preservation Commission heard how a signature written in wet plaster was found during the renovation of the Ivey-Ellington House, and what the town did to keep it.

Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Staff and a volunteer from Friends of the Page-Walker traced the signature to Charles A. Creel and researched the family and others connected to the house. Working with the State Historic Preservation Office, the town built a custom plexiglass enclosure that protects the fragile plaster where it is while leaving it visible. A local landmark designation report for the house is underway.

The commission also debriefed Historic Preservation Month, including a communications plan run with Cary Communications, parks staff and the Page-Walker Arts & History Center, History Hunt cards and a "Changing Face of Downtown Cary" presentation. Five of eight members were present.
