Cary's environmental advisory board had two items on July 14, both presentations from staff. The urban forester came to talk about a tree workshop for industry professionals that Cary will host later this year, the first time the town has run this particular workshop. The environmental outreach coordinator asked members to review the town's Garden for Wildlife webpage.

Cary is the 101st community in the country to be certified as a Community Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation, a designation that has to be renewed each year.

Nobody spoke at public comment. Ten of eleven members attended, two of them virtually; the council liaison could not join, and the chair told members the August meeting is canceled for lack of quorum.

On the tree workshop, members and the urban forester worked through what would make it succeed: the difference between a champion, a significant and a specimen tree, how the land development ordinance applies, whether the workshop covers redevelopment as well as new development, and how to reach homeowners associations and industry groups. Members asked what incentive would actually bring developers and HOA management companies through the door. Staff also reported on the Lazy Daze Festival green team, an FY27 contract with Compost Now covering 18 town festivals and events, and an electric vehicle charging change starting August 1. During member share, one member raised the environmental questions around a rezoning at High House and Davis Drive.
