The commission settled on a history trivia night at a local historic venue as its community event, choosing it over a downtown walking tour and a history day at a preserved Civil War farm. Members came prepared with event concepts. A teen council representative proposed a walking tour of downtown historic locations with a passport for stops. The chair proposed a history day at the Barnabus Jones Farm beside Jack Smith Park, a preserved Civil War site, and suggested folding the passport idea into it. A member proposed trivia night at one of the town's historic buildings now in commercial use. The commission chose trivia night and worked through marketing, giveaways, venues, a passport or bingo component, educational boards, registration through the recreation system and what day of the week to hold it. Staff will check venue and date logistics with the clerk's office, and the event becomes a standing agenda item.

The Nancy Jones House update was less welcome. Someone broke in, damaging two windows and the crawl space door. The property has been secured and public works will repair it, and members discussed cameras, motion sensor lights and signage to deter another attempt. Staff had not yet heard back on a grant application for a paint microscopy study at the same house.

On the master plan, staff said funding was approved in the 2027 budget and described it as a vision document that sits inside the Imagine Cary Community Plan. A request for proposals goes out later this autumn. If funding allows, it would add a strategic plan component and possibly update the town's historic preservation design guidelines. Staff warned it will absorb a large share of commission time and will dominate the work program presented this autumn, and said they are hiring to replace staff supporting other objectives including the signs program.

The chair reported that the Farm Life property on Walnut Street has been sold. It was the state's first Model Farm public high school under the farm education movement, and the buyer has been in touch about honouring that history and restoring the barn and possibly the cottage. Staff also noted a pre-application for a local landmark designation in Carpenter and a draft landmark report under way that may reach the commission at its next meeting. The meeting adjourned at about 7:54 pm.

The agenda was adopted as amended and the June minutes adopted, both without objection. No other votes were taken. Three of the eight members were absent.
