Committee meeting Police and public safetyFire and EMS

What's on this agenda

Wake EMS brings its three-month report on the new way it ranks 911 calls, rolled out from June 1. Calls now fall into four priorities, from E1, a lights-and-siren response within 12 minutes, to E4, transferred to a nurse advice line. The slides show E1 calls arriving within target 82.2% of the time, against 74.8% a year earlier. Fire departments are answering about 22 fewer EMS calls a day countywide and waiting about a minute less for an ambulance.

The committee also hears from the Bureau of Forensic Services on its new DNA laboratory, which took its first case July 16. The lab cost about $1.7 million, of which court fees and grants covered about $1.2 million. By October 22 it had finished 57 of 60 requests, almost all sexual assault kits, in an average of 12 days.
