Commissioners and school board members walked through growth pressure facing both bodies. Chatham County Schools projected the district's enrollment will pass 12,000 students by the 2025-2026 school year, with several schools headed past building capacity, and staff called the anticipated growth over the next decade unprecedented. Chatham Park has grown since its original plan of 7,100 acres and 22,000 dwellings to a projected 8,500 acres and 24,000 residential units, including Disney's roughly 1,500-acre "Asteria" community with more than 4,000 units; the school system has a site reserved in the North Village and is weighing an elementary school there against a middle school.

Staff outlined a new North Village elementary school targeted to open for the 2030-2031 year, an additional classroom pod planned for Margaret B. Pollard Middle School around 2029-2030, and gymnasium replacements at Bennett, Bonlee and Silk Hope schools with construction bids expected in July 2026. The county manager's office reviewed the capital improvement plan's scheduled and unscheduled projects. The two boards agreed to keep coordinating capital and long-range planning, including a stakeholder advisory group on new school planning expected to hold its first meeting in May. No votes were taken on any of the items; the boards adjourned 5-0 on a motion by Vice Chair Franklin Gomez Flores.
