County staff walked commissioners through the Fiscal Year 2027 budget outlook at a special session called for the purpose. Assistant County Manager Darrell Butts and Assistant Budget Director Will Curvin put continuation costs at about $7.8 million and expansion requests at about $4 million, against roughly $5.5 million in projected revenue growth, leaving a preliminary gap near $6 million before any general pay adjustment. County Manager Bryan Thompson said staff was still working to narrow that gap before presenting the Manager's Recommended Budget on May 4.

Commissioners spent part of the session on the Sheriff's Office Flock camera contract, funded through a property seizure fund rather than the general fund; Chair Amanda Robertson asked for a broader future discussion of data-sharing technology and privacy. They also discussed a nonprofit pharmacy that missed the deadline to apply for competitive funding and asked staff to look at options outside the normal process. After debating whether to add an extra budget meeting, the board agreed to keep the existing calendar: public hearings May 18 and 19, work sessions May 21, 22 and 27, and adoption by June 30. The meeting adjourned on a 5-0 vote.
