The town manager's suspension has organized Cary's year. The Cary Town Council placed Town Manager Sean Stegall on administrative leave on 20 November 2025, and the State Auditor reported on 16 July. On 22 September the council voted 6-0 to form a resident committee to recommend council pay.
On 24 September the council unanimously approved the Alston Commons rezoning, 500 to 625 apartments at NC 55. On 8 October it takes up the Hatcher Property rezoning, up to 52 homes on Saunders Grove Lane, and a ban on smoking and vaping in parks, greenways and enclosed public places from July 2027.

A state law signed on 11 August allows housing by right, up to 60 feet, on commercial and industrial sites in Cary, Raleigh and Charlotte. An 18-month moratorium on data center applications has been pending since 27 August.
