Pay is what Chatham County Schools' public comment period has been about for a year. Six teachers and parents thanked the board on 10 March 2025 for proposing to reinstate master's-degree pay and asked it to add incentive pay for exceptional-children teachers and support for bilingual staff, citing a statewide shortage. On 3 November ten arts teachers, parents and booster leaders told the board that mid-year cuts to extra-duty stipends and a cap on locally funded master's pay had left arts staff earning as little as a few dollars an hour across hundreds of hours of marching season. On 15 December six more speakers asked the board to seek a $2-an-hour raise for classified employees: bus drivers, instructional assistants, cafeteria staff. The through line is local supplement money, and the board hears about it from the people it affects rather than from a staff report.

Growth is the other constant, and the district's own consultants have put unusual weight on it. A demographer told the school board and the county commissioners at a joint session on 25 February 2025 that the district's enrollment forecast was the most aggressive of roughly 250 the firm had produced since 1990, driven by Chatham Park. A September update from planning firm OE counted more than 10,000 homes still in the pipeline countywide, most of them waiting on sewer capacity upgrades in Pittsboro and Siler City expected to finish in 2027. The boards met jointly again on 2 March 2026 on the same subject.
