Property assessment took up more of Orange County's year than any other subject. Appeals of the 2025 revaluation cost $232 million in assessed value. An outside audit by GAR Associates, due before the commissioners on 6 October, found the values met minimum standards and recommended changes in how homes and land are appraised.
The commissioners adopted a 68.05-cent tax rate on 16 June, a 4.22-cent increase. Staff warned on 29 September that the next two budgets face falling sales tax, a property tax cap on the November ballot and new school debt.
