Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
Town Manager Randy Harrington presented a $139,226,267 recommended budget for fiscal year 2026-27 that holds the property tax rate at 34.35 cents per $100 of valuation, the same rate the town has kept for years and among the lowest in Wake County. The budget would raise the typical water and wastewater bill by $11.89 a month, to $111.30 for 4,000 gallons, and raise the stormwater fee from $5.20 to $6.50 a month, its first change since January 2021. It funds 19 new positions and design work on a new fire station on Rex Road. A public hearing on the budget follows May 19, with a workshop May 21 and adoption set for June 2.
Utilities staff told the council Holly Springs remains fully compliant with drinking water rules and is not under water restrictions, though most of the state is in extreme drought. The Sanford Water Filtration Facility, which will add PFAS treatment capacity, remains on schedule for 2029. The council chose the Rizzo Center in Chapel Hill for its 2027 retreat, set for Feb. 4-6.
