What's on this agenda

The committee hears an update on Holly Springs' search for a development partner for North Main Athletic Complex and downtown. It also considers canceling its July 9 meeting. The agenda otherwise carries reports from council, transportation, tree and police-citizens liaisons, appreciation certificates for outgoing members, and updates on summer camps and Parks and Recreation Month.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The town's search for a development partner at the North Main Athletic Complex and downtown came to nothing. Development services director Chris Hills told the committee the solicitation drew no responses at all for the athletic complex, which he put down to lending conditions rather than lack of interest. Downtown drew three: a boutique hotel with parking, a fifty-fifty split of for-sale townhomes with park amenities, and a mix of parking deck, retail, apartments, condominiums and public space. After an initial evaluation none was advanced, and staff met each of the three teams to tell them so. The town, he said, stayed in control throughout and did not have to proceed.

A member asked why Eagles Landing has no pool. Staff said a pool was evaluated during master planning and ranked high in public input, but cost far more to build and run than the other planned amenities, so the council decided against it. A splash pad is the park's first aquatic investment, and the decision does not rule out a pool elsewhere or later.

Val Atkinson attended his last meeting after seven years. The committee cancelled its July 9 meeting. Council member Sarah Larson reported the 2027 budget adopted and said other towns have been calling about the town's new e-bike ordinance, with the next engagement session on July 25. Staff reported more than 1,600 children enrolled for summer camp, the Cultural Center lobby closed from June 15 to July 15 for renovation, and the festival street project entering design.
