Pittsboro's parks and recreation advisory board had three Chatham Park parkland decisions on April 8: the Section 2.1 site, a relocation of the Section 2.2 or 2.3 parkland, and a relocation in Section 4.3. The town commissioners took the same three items five days later, approving Section 2.1 and sending the others back for more information.

Staff also updated the board on work at Knight Farm Park, including shade structures, artificial turf replacement, added seating and fencing, and a splashpad due to open Memorial Day weekend.

The board approved two of the three Chatham Park parkland items and held the third. Section 2.1, identified as D2, was approved 6-0, and the Section 4.3 relocation to C1 was approved 6-0, both on the same terms the board has used since: the land as it stands, left in its natural state without disturbance or improvement. On the South Village 2.2 or 2.3 relocation the board took no vote, asking staff first for more on how usable the proposed sections are and whether the lake can be reached across Army Corps of Engineers land. That item came back to the board on 20 May.

The town manager set out how the money from the Chatham Park Moncure parkland sale has been allocated: $450,000 toward buying the RAFI building and $100,000 to fit it out, $350,000 for Town Lake improvements, $125,000 for Rock Ridge restrooms, $100,000 for Knight Farm Park, $75,000 for general park improvements and $50,000 for Kiwanis Park. The board then named its budget priorities for 2026-27 — Rock Ridge bathrooms, signage and adult programming — 6-0. A member asked after the greenway easement behind the Chatham Fairgrounds; the manager said the board has authorized the town to offer money for it and that staff have been working toward an agreement for two years.

Five recorded votes, all 6-0: the agenda, the February minutes as amended to add steep slope and drainage liability, the Section 2.1 parkland location, the Section 4.3 relocation, and the 2026-27 budget priorities. The South Village 2.2 or 2.3 relocation was not voted on.
