Chapel Hill's Town Council spent close to four hours on the draft Land Use Management Ordinance rewrite, then received and filed the update without further action. Long-Range Planning Manager Tas Lagoo walked through five policy areas: user friendliness, housing diversity, economic development, the built environment and environmental resilience. Council members asked for clearer graphics showing how the changes would affect specific neighborhoods. They also wanted a timeline for the policy trade-offs ahead and more detail on parking rules and Resource Conservation District buffers. Two residents spoke in public comment. One, a representative of the New Hope Bird Alliance, raised concerns about the zoning map's timing and about conservation easements. The other asked council to protect greenways and natural areas and to make the ordinance practical to use.

Council also proclaimed July 2026 as Disability Pride Month, inviting members of the B3 community to the podium for a group photo. Mayor Anderson opened the meeting with condolences for the loss of County Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford and a moment of silence in her honor. In announcements, Mayor Anderson publicized a June 25 poetry workshop led by the town's poet laureates. Council Member Amy Ryan said the Complete Community framework should guide the LUMO rewrite and urged colleagues to flag the major trade-offs ahead. Mayor pro tem Camille Berry thanked organizers of the town's Juneteenth celebration and asked colleagues to approach the LUMO discussion without division.
