Chapel Hill's Historic District Commission had six certificate of appropriateness cases on its 11 August agenda: 102 Fraternity Court, 712 and 742 Gimghoul Road, a memorial garden fence at the church at 100 South Columbia Street, 310 Pittsboro Street, and a new house at 111 Ridge Lane.

The commission also had four sets of minutes to approve, from March, April and two June meetings, and a staff report on administratively approved work.

The commission found four applications not incongruous with the historic district, all by unanimous votes of the five members present: 102 Fraternity Court, 712 Gimghoul Road, 111 Ridge Lane and 310 Pittsboro Street. For 111 Ridge Lane it asked staff and counsel to prepare the written decision. The applicant for 742 Gimghoul Road withdrew before the hearing, and 111 Ridge Lane was heard ahead of 310 Pittsboro Street because it was filed first.

The fence at 100 South Columbia Street was not decided. Steve Harward presented the church's case, including AI-generated images of the proposed fence, and Christopher Mather spoke in support. The commission then continued the evidentiary hearing to 8 September. The town's meeting feed records this item as approved; the minutes record a continuance.

How the votes went

All motions carried unanimously, with Vice-Chair Brian Daniels absent. Findings of not incongruous: 102 Fraternity Court (Gurlitz, Connolly), 712 Gimghoul Road (Moore, Tise), 111 Ridge Lane (Moore, Tise), 310 Pittsboro Street (Gurlitz, Connolly). 100 South Columbia Street continued to 8 September (Tise, Sider). Minutes of March 10, April 30, June 9 and June 22 approved (Sider, Gurlitz).
