What's on this agenda
No items for decision. An evening of staff presentations and updates: new renovation concepts for the Murphey School, a county historic landmark; proposed changes to the federal review rules that govern how historic properties are treated when public money or permits are involved; progress on the Occaneechi village; and a long list of possible field trips to eighteenth-century burying grounds, farms and old schoolhouses.

Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting.
Worth watching in the updates: a historic house at 752 Rex Drive in Hillsborough has been destroyed, complaints have been made about the appearance of the historic courthouse alongside a court security study, and the commission is tracking a ground penetrating radar survey of the Poor House Cemetery and a donation project at Harvey's Chapel cemetery. The Montrose landmark process and renovations at Twin Creeks, which may gain a tenant, are both moving.
The substantive discussion is the federal one. Section 106 of the national historic preservation act is what forces a federal agency to consider the effect of what it funds or permits on historic properties; staff put proposed revisions to those rules on the agenda alongside what they would mean for preservation going forward. Coming as it does with federal preservation funding already projected to fall, that is the item with consequences beyond the county.
