What's on this agenda

The longest item on the agenda is forty-five minutes for all commissioners to score submissions for the Pauli Murray Awards. The commission also takes the Blackwood Farms marker, sets its August retreat date, and hears committee reports on outreach and community events.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Scoring award submissions as a full board, in the meeting, with three quarters of an hour set aside for it, is the commission doing in public what many bodies do by email. The awards are named for a Durham-born civil rights lawyer, priest and poet whose legal thinking shaped both the desegregation and the sex discrimination cases that followed.

The commission is also short a secretary and carrying membership vacancies, and it fixes the date of the retreat that produced its subcommittee charters and ten-year vision - 22 August.

Its public comment rule is the same at every meeting, and worth restating: speakers are asked not to share personal identifying information or details of an active complaint, investigation or case, and the chair may redirect anyone who does to the complaint process, so the meeting does not become the hearing.
