The board adopted its agenda and August 4 minutes unanimously, met at the Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs for a staff-led tour, and heard a presentation on a pilot recreation scholarship program, discussing its funding, marketing and how the board can support it. Council Liaison Sarika Bansal thanked outgoing members Eileen McCarthy and Jennifer Gibbs, noted three new members are coming, and said public feedback on the Open Space Master Plan is open and GoCary transit will stay free through June 30, 2026. No members of the public spoke.

The board unanimously recommended a recreation fund payment in lieu of land dedication for the Pittard Sears Road rezoning (25-REZ-05), a 12.61-acre annexation at 606 and 694 Pittard Sears Road, citing a street-side trail already under construction nearby; members also discussed a nearby crosswalk. It unanimously made the same recommendation for the 1412 White Oak Church Road rezoning (25-REZ-07), a 4.33-acre annexation adjacent to the American Tobacco Trail, where the applicant has committed to a greenway connection; members discussed the mix of developed and undeveloped park land in western Cary and recommended staff update GIS maps to distinguish existing from planned parks. Staff reported the town accepted a $400,000 donation from the Shane Pegram Family Foundation for an accessible playground at Davis Drive Park, and that Cary PRCR was reaccredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies for five years after meeting all 154 standards.
