Cary's parks, recreation and cultural resources advisory board recommended disbanding the town's athletic committee on January 5 and folding its subjects into the board's own work. Staff had walked through the committee's history and the difficulties it faces; the vote was unanimous.

The board also recommended taking a payment into the recreation fund rather than a land dedication from a rezoning at 8732 Green Level Church Road, where 3.31 acres are going from R-40 to R-12 conditional use for up to six houses. The dedication would have been 0.17 acres, and Thomas Brooks Park and the White Oak Church Road tract are both within a mile with greenway connections.

Thomas Brooks Park, Downtown Cary Park and Bond Park drew more than three million visits between them in 2025.

The board took an overview of the parks system plan, whose six chapters run from community input through a needs assessment to implementation, and asked for the feedback link for residents and non-residents both.

On the Green Hope Elementary School playground renovation, members discussed how long playgrounds and their features last, then did an exercise designing what equipment could go in the space.

Two committee appointments were approved, one to the cultural arts committee and one to the greenway committee, after staff and members discussed the selection process and what stood out in the recommended applicants.

Spring Daze is April 25 and Lazy Daze is August 22 and 23. This is the fiftieth Lazy Daze, marked with a fifty-day campaign. Part of the GLOW installation will be projected onto the Ivey Ellington House.

Four unanimous votes with ten members voting: the land dedication recommendation (Masterson/Herndon), the cultural arts committee appointment (Manuel/Masterson), the greenway committee appointment (Masterson/Manuel), and disbanding the athletic committee (Masterson/Manuel).
