Cary's greenway committee took its 2026 calendar and work plan on January 15 and welcomed new members, deferring the election of a chair and vice chair to February.

The committee heard from its parks advisory board liaison that the town's athletics committee is being sunset after more than twenty years, with the parks department absorbing some programme oversight and volunteers offered other ways to take part.

Three Cary parks — Thomas Brooks, Bond and Downtown — drew more than three million visits between them in 2025. Public input on the ENGAGE and MOVE chapters of the parks, recreation and cultural resources system plan was open through January 30, and a land dedication near Thomas Brooks Park had been approved.

Staff explained greenway checks and how members can report problems through the town's 311 service. The teen council member reported the First Walk event as a success and suggested that the teen council share historical information along the route next time. Members traded ideas for merchandise for the 100 Miles celebration. Lazy Daze turns fifty in 2026, with a fifty-day campaign starting July 3.

The November 18 minutes were approved with an amendment condensing one section, moved by Fred Burchett and seconded by Justin Lanning. The 2026 calendar and work plan were approved, moved by Kelly Broccio and seconded by Steve Lane. The agenda was adopted with no objections.
