What's on this agenda

Cary's parks, recreation and cultural resources advisory board takes up two budget items at its February 2 meeting: an update on the department's capital budget request for fiscal year 2027 and an overview of how the operating budget approval process works. The board also hears an overview of the department's application for the National Gold Medal Award, the National Recreation and Park Association's top honor for park and recreation agencies, and works out which committees its members will liaise with, including the Cultural Arts Committee and the Greenway Committee. A continuation of a prior discussion on the board's athletic committee is also on the published agenda.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The board adopted its agenda as amended and accepted minutes from its January 5 meeting, both by unanimous vote, at its February 2 session. Council liaison Sarika Bansal thanked town staff for their work during recent winter storms and pointed residents to 311 for storm-related questions. Nobody signed up for public comment.

Members heard that the department's capital request for fiscal year 2027 totals $21 million, split between $8 million for maintenance and $13 million for improvements and new projects, and got an overview of how the operating budget moves through approval. They also reviewed the Gold Medal application and worked out liaison assignments to the Cultural Arts Committee, the Greenway Committee, the Cary Art Daze work groups and the senior club presidents. The amended agenda dropped a planned continuation of the athletic committee discussion; the minutes do not record it being taken up.
