Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

List maintenance under G.S. 163-82.14 removed 5,995 voters and sent 7,814 confirmation mailings, which accounts for most of the drop in registration.

The budget request covers the Durham municipal primary on 7 October 2025, the municipal and Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board election on 4 November 2025, the primary and Orange County school board election on 3 March 2026, a second primary and school board runoff on 12 May 2026 if required, and any recounts. It also seeks a building expansion with security upgrades, including a new loading dock and a layout intended to improve election security.

The state board has identified Unity 3.4.1.1, the county's current election management software, as needing replacement for reasons of technology support and security standards, and has secured Homeland Security Grant Program funding to help counties move. A demonstration was scheduled for 15 April, including Electionware 5.2.4.0, which staff said is the only version compatible with the county's existing voting equipment.

The board discussed the Griffin election protest and the office's work researching each voter on the contested list to determine why they were included. One person addressed the board.
