Cary's parks, recreation and cultural resources advisory board will hear the cultural arts committee's recommendation to award $192,000 in FY27 grants to 24 of 25 nonprofit arts groups that applied, against $292,250 requested. The board met at WakeMed Soccer Park, approved the cultural arts grant recommendations unanimously, and toured the facility.

Trudy Ohnsorg presented the Cultural Arts Committee's grant recommendations and explained the evaluation process. Members asked how recipients report on programs the grants pay for, how Cary's funding compares with neighboring towns, and what range of organizations applies.

Capital planning manager Paul Kuhn gave the capital budget update. Members asked what counts as capital rather than operating spending, about the Cary Tennis Park renovation, about when in the budget process staff recommend and the council decides, about falling property tax revenue, and about engaging philanthropic funders more effectively. Staff also walked members through changes to the department's scholarship program, covering who qualifies, how to apply and how it will be marketed.

ACCESS staff opened the meeting by presenting one of their participants with the summer program guide she appears on the cover of; the council liaison suggested taking it to a council meeting. Nobody spoke at public comment.
