What's on this agenda

Wake County's school board took second readings on fourteen policies Monday evening, and the run of them is the story: equity, the selection of instructional materials and objections to them, religious-based exemptions from school programs, and eight separate purchasing and bidding policies including participation by historically underutilized businesses and minority business enterprise participation in construction contracts. Second reading is the stage at which a policy is adopted.

The board also received the 2025-26 testing and accountability results and heard a sustainable instructional device strategy. Construction ran through the consent agenda: guaranteed maximum prices at Briarcliff Elementary and Brentwood Elementary, change orders at Ligon Middle, North Garner Middle and Wakefield High, contract amendments at Brassfield and West Millbrook, mobile classroom removal at West Lake Middle, safety and security hardware upgrades, and easements to the Town of Cary at Panther Creek High and to a developer at Southeast Raleigh High. The board named the outdoor amphitheater at Farmington Woods Magnet Elementary for retired principal Winston Pierce. The district publishes item titles through its portal but no agenda document, so this account comes from the item list.

Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.

4 items were added after the agenda first went up

A late addition is how the public gets surprised: somebody reads the agenda, decides nothing on it concerns them, and the thing that does is added afterwards. They are marked in the list below.

The day counts are an upper bound. Governments publish what is on an agenda, not when each item was put there, so these are measured from when this site first saw the item — which can be later than when the clerk added it, never earlier.
