Chatham County's Climate Change Advisory Committee met by video on 22 January to debrief the report it gave the commissioners at their budget retreat and to take up the data center moratorium. Three members' terms were due to end on 28 February.

Eleven members attended. The committee reviewed how its report to the commissioners' budget retreat had gone and where the climate action plan stands. Members raised a proposed gas drilling site and a data center near the county line, and went through what regulations would apply, what the environmental effects might be, and whether there are controls the county could use or partners it could work with.

Staff took away work on the climate action plan request for proposals, including provisions for contractor updates to the commissioners at milestones, and on reviewing the federal energy audit results with the facilities director to pick projects such as LED lighting and heating setbacks. A member was asked to bring the data center question to the Environmental Review Advisory Committee's next meeting. Staff were also to find out the format of the county's coming special meeting and public hearings on data centers.
