What's on this agenda
Chapel Hill's Planning Commission opens its formal review Tuesday of the rewritten Land Use Management Ordinance, holding a public hearing on the 29 September draft and preparing written comments for the Town Council. The council expects to hold its own hearings on 21 October and 18 November. The earliest it could adopt the new ordinance is 18 November.
The September draft walks back several features of the July version. Most of downtown would keep today's 20,000-square-foot limit on development without a council permit, down from 105,000 in July. The limit of four unrelated people per house returns in lower-density districts. The missing-middle density bonus now applies along collector streets only where there are sidewalks, and newly within a quarter mile of a public school. The draft also adds a 20% bonus for energy-efficient affordable housing and relaxes size limits on home daycares. The commission can continue the discussion on 20 October, and it also approves three sets of minutes.
