Chatham County, Pittsboro, Siler City, Chatham County Schools and Central Carolina Community College each presented 2026 legislative priorities to the county's state delegation at the annual breakfast. County Manager Bryan Thompson asked legislators to repeal state downzoning restrictions, protect local property tax authority, and create a state housing tax credit, citing an $880,000 county median home sale price. DSS Director Jennie Kristiansen said federal SNAP and Medicaid changes will cost the county about $350,000 a year in administrative funding as roughly 2,600 residents face new eligibility rules.

Pittsboro asked for a public safety revolving loan fund and state stormwater funding. Siler City sought downtown revitalization money and $10 million to $15 million to replace a lost recreation facility. Chatham County Schools pushed for higher teacher pay and stable state funding amid an unfinished state budget, and Central Carolina Community College sought more state support for its Moore Center project, whose cost has grown past $100 million. Rep. Robert Reives and a legislative aide for Sen. Natalie Murdock responded, citing $18.2 million in grants recently secured for county projects. The board then adjourned, 5-0.
