What's on this agenda

Two presentations open the evening: a wildlife centre proposing to turn the farmstead at Twin Creeks into its operations base with a nature centre in the park, and the county's parks director on the draft trails plan. Then membership, the climate action grant, a PFAS update, and the State of the Environment report, whose final sections are due a week later.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The report the commission has been writing since 2025 reached its deadline here: final versions of every section due 15 June, with a summer editing schedule agreed. The three subcommittees spent their breakout filling gaps in data and material rather than drafting. Two months later, on 10 August, the finished report came back for a vote to accept.

The wildlife centre proposal is the one with a physical consequence. Twin Creeks is a future county park with historic buildings on it, and the same site appears before the historic preservation commission as a renovation question and as a possible new tenant. What is proposed here answers that: an operations base for a wildlife organisation in the farmstead, with a nature centre for the public inside the park.

Staff confirmed the county commissioners have funded the climate action grant and discussed the allocation approved, which settles a question the commission had been tracking since the grant opened in 2025.

A member reported on a university well collaboration study and said a PFAS remediation tour is yet to be scheduled; that tour appears as an update on the August agenda, and the water authority brought its own PFAS presentation to the commission that month.

Three new applicants were introduced and the commission recommended a fourth, from the previous month, to the county commissioners for membership.

How the votes went

Three unanimous 10-0 votes: approval of the May summary, a recommendation that the county commissioners appoint one applicant to the commission, and adjournment.
