The commission introduced two new members, Jeff Ryan and Margot Lester, and confirmed that four members with expiring terms, Mayur Lodaya, Matthew Ferguson, William Branch and Mark Randall, want to continue and will be put forward for reappointment. Members reviewed a glass, water-drop-shaped design for the new environmental award and a logo, asking whether the glass piece could be shaped to stand on its own; they plan to pair it with a framed certificate.

Staff opened scoring for this year's Climate Action Grant: 16 applications requesting $619,095 against $267,750 available. Members began ranking applications, focusing on greenhouse-gas reduction, and dropped a few from consideration, but ran out of time and will finish scoring at the next meeting. The planned subcommittee breakouts on the State of the Environment report were skipped for the same reason. Staff gave updates on the Leave the Leaves campaign, upcoming listening sessions on civil rights and civic life, Great Trails State Day, and an October 28 composting workshop.
