What's on this agenda

Orange County's parks and recreation council elected its chair and vice chair on April 1 and spent more than an hour reviewing the draft county Trails Plan. The plan proposes nine trail connections with a priority ranking, and it came back to this council repeatedly through the spring and summer.

Under old business the council took up the joint meeting with the Orange Unified Transportation Board, which was held on June 3.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The council elected Trevor Robinson chair, succeeding Natalie Ziemba, and re-elected Louise Flinn vice chair; both votes were unanimous. Staff presented the draft Orange County Trails Plan, which goes to the Board of County Commissioners on April 14 before circulating to other advisory boards and partner agencies for comment and returning to the council for a final recommendation.

The council also approved its previous meeting's summary, corrected to show Alissa Martucci present, and heard that a contract amendment with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, delayed for a time, has been approved, letting consultants resume work ahead of a joint meeting with the Orange Unified Transportation Board on June 3. Staff also reported a petition opposing a planned disc golf course at Blackwood Farm Park, where one hole is being relocated after a walk-through with bird-conservation and disc-golf representatives.

How the votes went

The council elected Trevor Robinson chair and Louise Flinn vice chair, both without opposition. It also approved the corrected meeting summary without opposition.
