What's on this agenda

Orange County's parks and recreation council filled three of its own seats on March 4 and said goodbye to a member finishing his second term after more than five years. It also took an update on the county Trails Plan, which had spent months tied to a second plan that was not moving.

The joint meeting with the Orange Unified Transportation Board, scheduled for March 11, was called off.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The reason for the delay is worth following, because it shaped the rest of the year. The Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan had stopped while a contract amendment went through the state transportation department, and the Trails Plan was coupled to it. Staff and the consultant had been on hiatus since December. At the end of February, with the county manager's approval, the two plans were uncoupled, and the Trails Plan went to the county commissioners alone on April 14. The joint meeting with the transportation board was pushed back and eventually held on June 3.

The council recommended three appointments, each unanimous: one for the Chapel Hill city limits seat, one for the Chapel Hill township seat where several people had applied, and one at-large. It also presented a certificate of appreciation to the departing member and approved the December 3 meeting summary.

How the votes went

Three appointment recommendations and the December meeting summary all passed unanimously.
