What's on this agenda

Orange County's parks and recreation council plans to adopt a 2026 meeting calendar and vote on its annual report and work plan. The agenda also lists the biennial joint meeting of area parks boards and the Nature of Orange photography contest. It carries no other detail beyond a director's report and an update from the intergovernmental parks work group.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The biennial joint meeting of parks boards from the county and its municipalities looks unlikely to happen this year. Staff have talked to their counterparts in the towns and will try again next year to set a date.

The council approved its 2026 calendar, which keeps the 2025 pattern: three meetings in Chapel Hill, one at a park, and none in July or January. It also approved its annual report and work plan, pending staff corrections, which goes to the county commissioners in January alongside every other advisory board's.

The council co-sponsors the Nature of Orange photography contest and members were asked for 2026 theme proposals. The intergovernmental parks work group next meets April 9.

How the votes went

Three motions, all carried with none opposed: approving the November 5 meeting summary (Robinson/Cason), the 2026 calendar (Parker/Husketh), and the annual report and work plan pending staff corrections (Flinn/Robinson). Six of twelve members were present.
