Cary's human relations, inclusion and diversity advisory board adopted its 2026 work plan on November 6 and kept one item in it deliberately: a conversation with the Cary Police Department about the training its officers receive.

The board also reviewed the 2025 senior center accreditation assessment and recommended changes. Members praised the gender demographic wording, questioned whether household income needs to be on the form at all, and asked for a question about being a caretaker, expanded language options, an open-ended question on hobbies, skills and occupation, and a free-text box at the end.

On outreach, members debated whether to host a forum or approach interfaith groups individually to raise awareness of the board. The mayor, sitting in as council liaison, supported a forum with interfaith groups and suggested asking the town clerk which groups had already made contact.

A member reported that a local assistance organisation has received three times as many requests for donations.

The board elected a new vice chair. The council liaison noted that a new liaison will be appointed the following month, following the election.
