What's on this agenda

Chatham County's commissioners vote Monday evening on a resolution opposing the Enbridge gas pipeline, a month after the Agriculture Advisory Board held its own public hearing on it. That board reports back the same night, and the pipeline company's attorney has already written to the county about the zoning amendments further down the agenda.

Four legislative rezoning hearings follow. US HWY 64 Properties asks to take 13.145 acres off US 64 West at Ridge View Road from residential to regional business; RTP Gardens asks for conditional regional business zoning on a tract off Bob Horton Road near Apex; a Corinth Road owner in Moncure asks to move from R-5 to R-1. The fourth is the county's own amendment to the special use permit process. A separate set of the county's own zoning amendments sits on the board priorities list, including one that removes off-street parking requirements to keep the ordinance in step with G.S. 160D. The board also votes on the first plat for Whispering Creek, 238 lots on 288.6 acres off Bynum Ridge Road, and on a contractor's storage yard at 1656 Campbell Road in Bear Creek, where one resident has asked the board to reopen the quasi-judicial hearing before it decides.

The afternoon work session is where the money is. Commissioners take a space needs study and master plan from Hobbs Architects and The Wooten Company, a report on whether to run the Expanding Access to Early Learning initiative for a full year, presentations on opioid settlement spending and farmland preservation, and a $250,000 mobile health clinic from Tesco Specialty Vehicles. They close the session with two closed sessions, one of them on ECO TIP West LLC v. Chatham County.
