What's on this agenda
Orange County's Commission for the Environment spent December 9, 2024 finishing its annual report to commissioners and deciding who should write the county's next State of the Environment report.
Summarized from the published agenda. Read the agenda itself before acting on it.
Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
The commission decided to write the State of the Environment report itself. Staff gave the history of the document and answered questions, then members voted around the room on three options: take it on themselves, seek funding for an environmental consultant, or work with graduate students. Most chose to do it in house. The chair will survey members on what they want in the report and invite people who worked on the last one to speak at a future meeting.
Members finished drafting the annual report and work plan for the Board of County Commissioners and approved it unanimously. They also agreed to co-sponsor next year's Nature of Orange photo contest with the Parks and Recreation Council, on the theme 'My Place in Nature.' Staff reported that about 70 people came to the Repair Café, bringing everything from furniture to jewelry, and that two sustainability interns are starting, one on transportation and one on resource conservation. Subcommittee breakouts were skipped for time. Eleven of thirteen members attended, and the meeting ran to 9:04 p.m.
How the votes went
Four unanimous votes: the November meeting summary, the annual report and work plan, co-sponsorship of the photo contest, and adjournment.
