What's on this agenda
The Fairview Community Watch and Fairview Youth in Action brought the Orange County Parks and Recreation Council a plan for their own park on 5 February 2025, worked up with a UNC research collaborative. Their first priority is soccer.

Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
The group ranked three priorities. Soccer in the baseball outfield comes first: movable goals in the short term, a permanent field later once the landfill beneath the park is dealt with. Staff said movable goals would need agreement with the youth athletic association that holds a licence for the fields, and that a permanent field depends on the state's remediation report. He added that old landfill sites often suit soccer fields because they need little subsurface disturbance.
Second is improving benches, water fountains and eventually the playground near the Dorothy Johnson Community Center, which would need help from Hillsborough and a place in a future capital plan. Third is expanding walking trails and connecting the park to the surrounding neighbourhood. Staff said the division can maintain some sections, such as the connector toward Homemont Avenue, and that additional trails belong in a revised master plan the community would help write.
Staff said some items can be handled soon through internal coordination while others need several partners and future budget.
How the votes went
No votes are recorded on the community plan; the council received it.
