Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The board reviewed a draft update to the Hometown Spirit Award and recommended adding language on "commitment to the Town of Cary community" to the award's overview, clarifying the definition of Cary traditions with examples, and recognizing newly created traditions in the selection criteria; the recommendations went to staff working on the award, not to a vote. Cary Transit's Kelly Blazey then presented on the GoCary system and the new Wake Bus Rapid Transit line, telling the board GoCary carries more than 400,000 riders a year. She said fare-free service continues for now, work is underway on more benches, shelters and ADA access, and the system offers information in English and Spanish.

The board also discussed restocking supplies for its Community Engagement Table events and reviewed member availability to staff a table at the town's June 13 Pride in the Park event. Under old business, members began planning a September community conversation event, discussing its format and goals; they agreed to set a date, time and location at the next meeting, with two or three members meeting separately beforehand to develop the plan.
