What's on this agenda

Cary's town council takes final action on the Jacobs Creek rezoning on Thursday, annexing 8.99 acres at 4312 Jacobs Creek Lane and applying Cary zoning that limits the site to 16 detached dwellings, inside the Jordan Lake watershed protection overlay and the conservation residential overlay. The planning and zoning board found it consistent with the Imagine Cary plan 6-0, and the council held the hearing on 27 August.

The largest sum on the agenda is a $6,125,000 bid award to rebuild ultraviolet disinfection at the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility. The existing single channel, in service since the plant opened in 1986, has reached the end of its life, and the project adds a second channel for higher future flows and for the backup that regulators now require before treated water goes to Middle Creek. The council also takes a three-year janitorial contract split between four firms at up to $3,558,493.71, and advisory board appointments effective 1 October with an ordinance change adding a member to the Human Relations, Inclusion, and Diversity Advisory Board.

Everything is on the consent agenda. There are no public hearings and no discussion items.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

Cary's town council approved its entire consent agenda in one vote Thursday, finalizing the Jacobs Creek rezoning and annexation at 4312 Jacobs Creek Lane and calling a September 24 public hearing on a second annexation at 0 Evans Road. The council awarded a $6,125,000 contract to Sanford Contractors to rebuild UV disinfection at the South Cary Water Reclamation Facility and approved three-year janitorial contracts split among four firms for up to $3,558,493.71. It also confirmed advisory board appointments effective October 1, including the Town Code change adding a seat to the Human Relations, Inclusion, and Diversity Advisory Board.

There were no public hearings, and nothing was on the printed discussion agenda. But Councilmember Bella Huang and Mayor Pro Tem Lori Bush raised pedestrian safety at the Ederlee Drive crosswalk from the floor, and the council directed staff to move ahead with interim safety improvements there. The council went into closed session before adjourning at 11:16 p.m.

How the votes went

The consent agenda, covering the appointments, both annexations, the Jacobs Creek rezoning, the UV disinfection bid award, the janitorial contracts and the two purchase-order notifications, passed in a single vote. The minutes record it as approved but do not give a roll-call count.
