Regular meeting RezoningAppointments and personnelElections and districtsHealth and human services

What's on this agenda

The planning board recommended rezoning 220 W Academy Street so the local food pantry can build its own home. The pantry currently rents space at that address and has bought the property.

The board also elected a vice-chair for 2026 and received word that a separate rezoning on Purfoy Road had been withdrawn by the petitioner.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

All seven members attended and every vote carried without dissent.

The 220 W Academy Street hearing drew two speakers in favor and none against. The applicant's surveyor explained that the food pantry operates from rented space at that location and wants to construct its own building on the newly purchased property. A pantry volunteer said neighbors who contribute were in the room in support and that the location matters to how the pantry runs. The board asked no questions and had no discussion.

Staff recommended approval on four grounds: the request matches the Downtown classification in the 2040 Community Vision Land Use Plan, it supports the plan's policies on infill development inside town limits and on growing downtown, and the offered conditions fit the site's development potential. The board recommended approval 7-0 and sent it to the commissioners, who adopted it on March 9.

A rezoning at 7601 Purfoy Road for New Horizon Academy, which would have moved 1.85 acres from residential agricultural to corridor commercial conditional zoning, was withdrawn by the petitioner with nothing left to consider. Jeff Stevens was elected vice-chair through December 2026, and the board met the new assistant planning director, who came from the Town of Morrisville. The meeting adjourned at 6:07 pm.

How the votes went

The minutes, the rezoning recommendation and adjournment each passed 7-0. The vice-chair election passed 6-0.
