What's on this agenda

Pittsboro's parks and recreation advisory board met on December 3 with updates on four park projects — Lewis Freeman Park, the Robeson Creek master plan, the South Village small area plan and a fence replacement at Kiwanis Park — and a proclamation of appreciation for a departing figure.

No minutes have been published for this meeting, so what the board decided is not on the record. Under new business the agenda also lists restrooms at Rock Ridge, development ordinance updates, enhancements at Knight Farm Park, and a field trip to the RAFI building.

Meeting recap

What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes

The Pittsboro Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met December 3 with Chairperson Josh Rudy, Ryan Ford, Brian Finnegan, Rebecca Young, Bridgett Perry and Patti Dukes present, along with Parks and Recreation Director Katy Keller. The board adopted its agenda and approved its October 8 minutes, each by a 5-0 vote. Keller reported a construction bid awarded at Lewis Freeman Park, with completion hoped for early spring. Data collection for the Robeson Creek master plan is finished, with findings due to the board in early 2026. The town board approved the South Village small area plan at its last meeting. Commercial-grade fencing is replacing residential-grade fencing at Kiwanis Park this week.

Board members chose to share one parade float with Pittsboro's Downtown board, with Parks and Recreation members handing out candy, rather than field two, after discussing rider and walker counts. Keller shared a proclamation of appreciation written for Sara Brinson, a past board member. She also outlined three projects ahead: restroom pricing under review at Rock Ridge; development-ordinance changes covering a park-land fee in lieu of dedication, road-frontage standards and a shade requirement at every park; and, at Knight Farm Park, a fence and shade structures over the small and large dog parks plus a shade structure and concrete pad at the splash pad. The board's RAFI building field trip appears on the agenda with no discussion recorded in the minutes. During board comment, Patti Dukes asked for an ESRI map of parks, greenways, structures and other park properties, and Brian Finnegan asked that park entrances be added to it. The board adjourned on a 5-0 vote, having taken no vote recommending action to the town board this session.

How the votes went

All recorded votes were procedural and passed 5-0: adopting the agenda, approving the October 8 minutes, and adjourning. The board took no vote recommending action to the town board this session.
