Commissioners opened with a work session on county finances and operations. Auditors from Martin Starnes & Associates gave Chatham an unmodified, clean opinion on its fiscal year 2025 books, with a general fund balance of $104,950,114 after a roughly $30 million increase tied to the Tri-River utility merger. Staff also presented the 2025 resident satisfaction survey, which held the county at an overall B+ grade, and a peer-jurisdiction review of the board's own rules of procedure that commissioners asked staff to keep developing. A resident used the sole work-session public comment slot to ask the board to tighten wastewater standards for private package treatment plants in unincorporated subdivisions.

In the evening regular session, commissioners adopted an eight-item consent agenda in one vote -- an NCDOT road resolution, an intent to close part of NC Highway 902, a dam project ordinance, budget amendments, tax refunds, an economic-development contract increase, the naming of two private roads, and final plat approval for a 131-lot subdivision at Parks at Meadowview -- then adopted a Black History Month resolution and a resolution backing state juvenile-justice funding requests.
