What's on this agenda
Fuquay-Varina's Board of Commissioners handled a routine consent agenda August 3 -- an assessment abatement on Longfellow Street, an annexation petition for Callis Properties on Piney Grove Wilbon Road, and a condemnation resolution for property needed at the Old Honeycutt Road/Kennebec Road intersection -- alongside two large contract awards: a $151,455 railroad crossing closure at Wilbur Jones Road/Johnson Pond Road, and a contract to build a 1-million-gallon elevated water storage tank on Wilbon Road. The meeting also gives first readings to four zoning map amendments that would come back for public hearings later in August: two by Mauldin Watkins Surveying (210 S West Street and 417 & 419 Raleigh Street), one combined rezoning and land use plan amendment by Sampson-Bladen Oil Company for the same Piney Grove Wilbon Road tract as the annexation petition, and one by M/I Homes of Raleigh for Sunset Lake Road.
The board also welcomes new Economic Development Director Kelly Gordon, marks National Farmers Market Week, and pins badges on new fire department hires. Only the agenda was available, not minutes, so no outcomes are recorded here.

Meeting recap
What happened, drawn from the records published after the meeting. Minutes
Commissioners approved all three consent items -- the Longfellow Street abatement liens, the Callis Properties annexation petition on Piney Grove Wilbon Road, and the condemnation resolution for the Old Honeycutt/Kennebec intersection project -- on a single 5-0 vote. They also approved the two contract awards on separate unanimous votes: the $13,843,000 Wilbon Road elevated water tank contract to Landmark Structures, paired with a $6,843,000 project ordinance amendment, and the $151,455 Wilbur Jones Road/Johnson Pond Road railroad crossing closure contract to Pacos Construction. The board gave first readings to four rezoning and land use plan amendments -- for 210 S West Street, 417 & 419 Raleigh Street, the Piney Grove Wilbon Road tract, and Sunset Lake Road -- without discussion or a recorded vote; those return for public hearings on August 18.
The board also approved the July 7 minutes 5-0, introduced Economic Development Director Kelly Gordon, pinned badges on two new firefighters, accepted a painting of the late Bruce Wunsch from his family, and read a proclamation for National Farmers Market Week. It met in closed session on attorney-client privilege and property acquisition from 8:42 p.m. to 11:23 p.m. and returned with nothing to report before adjourning.
