The Tree Board met January 21, 2026, with Chair Tim Logue, Vice Chair Thomas Darling, Matt Archibald, Brian Mayell, Mixon Nelson and Gregory Yavelak present; Linda Paynter was absent. Members voted 6-0 to approve an amended plant list that youth interns proposed for a site at the Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center, removing loropetalum and abelia from the shrub list and confining mint to planters only.

Logue described a webinar in the Landscapes that Last series on native-plant policies used by several North Carolina local governments. Staff presented the board's 2026 annual work plan, which members endorsed, and agreed to take up pruning workshops or a video, an idea from Brian Mayell, at a June meeting. In updates, Logue reported 601 volunteer hours in 2025 on invasive species removal and riparian restoration, the Garden Club announced an April 25 plant sale, and staff outlined FY27 budget, tree inventory and interpretive sign work; Logue agreed to write text for the sign.

The board approved the agenda 6-0. It also voted 6-0 to approve the amended Dorothy N. Johnson Community Center plant list, removing loropetalum and abelia from the shrub list and limiting mint to planters. No other item came to a vote.
